“In the context of ecological destruction and huge disparity between the 1% & the 99%, it is crucial that we come together across difference in respectful, inclusive and imaginative ways and that we redefine ‘progress’, ‘growth’ and ‘success’ in the context of the needs of the communities and ecosystems of which we are a part.” — Kanada Gorla

vision

We envision a world where the social fabric is woven of, and welcoming of difference, and is strong enough to weather coming storms of economic and environmental disruption. Where people become stronger and more united through deepening connections with each other, their place, and the natural world. Where we understand that we - humans and other than humans - are so deeply entwined and interconnected with one other, that we are — all of us — kin.

purpose

The purpose of kin is threefold:

  • strengthening the individuals, projects and organisations in place-based towns and cities who do so much to uphold their communities and support the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our society; and who do their extraordinary work often with very little funding, support or training for themselves, their staff, volunteers, projects and organisations.

  • deepening the bonds of community-makers across their town or city to build lasting and mutually beneficial connections and outcomes.

  • co-creating peer learning communities with people who work at the grassroots level in their town or city where they can share their knowledge and experience and develop new tools and skills.

how will we achieve this?

Through intergenerational programmes and events co-created with and for a broad range of people identifying as being, or wanting to become, community-makers e.g. grassroots organisers, educators, mentors, artists, social and welfare and environmental practitioners / activists etc. Kin programmes build and deepen connections between people, place and nature. We create on-going learning communities and seed regenerative cultural practices, horizontal leadership, wellbeing and resilience, deep listening, creative mentoring and so much more.

The core elements of Kin's work have been honed through extensive research and lived experience as coaches, mentors and facilitators designing and delivering transformational programmes, alternative business practice and a diverse set of cultural events.

By keeping the door open Kin dreams of addressing whom and what ever turns up.
